03 Sable Overheat/Temp rise at idle
About two weeks ago my Sable overheated; I pullled over, let it cool, refilled the coolant, and slowly made it back home.
I took it to my mechanic who did a basic radiator flush. It ran fine the next day, but began to overheat again on the way home off of the expressway.
These are the things we… Continue reading

Seafoam in high mileage engines
Hello, all. We have a bunch of high mileage minivans (all are over 250,000) and I have been pondering the use of Seafoam in these engines. I am comfortable with running it through the intake and in the fuel tank so lets not discuss that, but what is the wisdom of using it in the crankcase? The… Continue reading

Oil consumption, and Alternator?
*I have a couple of questions, and instead of two different threads, I thought I’d just combine them into one.
First, is there any rule of thumb on typical oil consumption (if any) on these engines? We bought the car when it had 80k on it, and it now just turned over 100k. I’d have to look it… Continue reading

A/C, fan and overheating problems
Well, on top of the leaking heater core, this 2004 Freestar van has some serious cooling issues at 250,000 miles.
First off, both fans run all the time. From a cold start-up to a hot shut-down, the fans are on.
Second when the A/C is in use, when the driver pulls up to a stop, the A/C… Continue reading

To change-or not to change
‘allo friends
I could really use some sage advice from all you experienced Ford wrenches. I have recently become the proud fourth owner of a 1977 Mercury Marquis. The former owner held her as a garage queen, and thought it was enough to start her twice a year a pull her out annually… Continue reading
